Morrowind; really annoying problem

Ok.... so i went into urshilaku to continue the main storyline looking for the bonebiter bow. well when i got into the right room and didnt realized that it was the right room and left, it of course disappeared. now instead of having to redo the entire game up to that point which took me about a month i tried to cheat to get the bow in my inventory but the cheat did not work. it told me that the file was not saved or something to that effect... what could be the problem cuz its really annoying and i dont wanna start over. thanks ^_^

Weapon Codes

In the middle of play press the '' ~ '' key to get to the console window. For cheats that affect your character, type: "player->" followed by any of the codes from the list below. To alter the amount you gain, enter a number after the code.

yeah i was entering the item name and not the item id.
