DirectX Problem (DxDiag Included)
I am having a problem with my directx version (9.0c). I tried using the Dec 06, Nov 07, Nov 08 end-user versions of the directx but still undergo the following problems.

When I play a game Silkroad Online ( an online mmorpg ) and sometimes the client crashes. After it does, I am not able to play graphics intensive games like Far Cry 2 and the like. Older games that run in 640x480 resolution with 256 colours also cease to work.

I tested dxdiag and had problems with all 7,8,9 versions of the Direct3D test and on the last one of the DirectDraw test.

I do have to stress that my problem has nothing to do with an unsupported updated version of the game because it used to work fine and the game files are still unchanged from earlier.

2x2GB Kingston HyperX Ram
Sapphire ATI 4870
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2

PS. I already tested all versions of directx that I can find over the internet so please do refrain from suggesting what has been done. =) I had also installed the newest ATI Catalyst Drivers as well as the previous and factory drivers too. Note that conflicting graphics drivers aren't the issue as I have used Driver Cleaner Pro to wipe out any remaining drivers and CCleaner to weed out invalid registry keys left behind after the uninstallation. I have also reinstalled the game several times over.

i had some nasty direct x problems, do you get a 'direct x has encountered an unrecoverable erro'r while loading cod4?.....

to fix my direct x issues i did a system restore to before the problem arose...seemed to work!, system restore is a last resort so don't do it before testing any other fixes people mention!

Hi trein91 and welcome to TSF,

What is the problem exactly. You have not given any information on any error message.
But when silkroad crashes make sure the exe is not running in the background. Check and close it using Task Manager.
