Half-Life 2 crash at Loading screen.
I have read the steps and have made sure that I am currently in compliance with all of them.
I bought Orange Box for PC back in August; played through Portal and TF2 with no problems. My computer isn't especially powerful, but it's adequate for all sorts of things. Half-Life 2 is a major exception here. Since August-September, whenever I try to play it, I click on "new game," am brought to the LOADING bar, where it loads, and sometimes get a glimpse of the "Half-Life 2" header before my computer shuts down and restarts. I have verified the integrity of the cache countless times, I have uninstalled and re-downloaded countless times, I have lowered all of the video settings, I have tried playing windowed as opposed to full-screen, and I have even, since then, changed from Windows XP to XP Pro. The only instance things were different were when I changed the 800x600 resolution to something higher, resulting in the crashes happening far sooner. I have posted at the Steam forums multiple times and gotten no response. I have contacted Steam and Valve directly and have gotten no response. I have followed this thread: half life 2 crashes on loading screen [RESOLVED] The Shortcut tip by Tiber Septim gave me an extra second or two before the typical crash, but even in windowed mode, it has not changed my circumstances for the better. I am so incredibly desperate to play this game, I would appreciate any help. Portal and TF2, both games with higher minimum requirements, have run on medium to high settings with no problem; this must be a specific problem. Sincerely, Pierce Specs: OS: Windows XP Professional SP3. Computer: AMD Sempron 2800+, 1.99 GHz, 1GB RAM. Video Card: ATI All-In-Wonder 9600, DirectX10. Soundcard: SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit. Freespace: 42 GB. Last edited by Pierceful; 02-27-2009 at 08:07 PM. |

Re: Half-Life 2 crash at Loading screen.
Hello Pierceful, and welcome to TSF
you said in your Specs ATI 9600, Directx 10 that is impossible, cause you are running Windows XP and DX10 is not supported under Windows XP it is only for Vista, so are you using any hacks to run DX10, it could damage your PC and that could be the problem you have in Half-life 2 Also download RIVATUNER and check for any artifacts in your video card

Re: Half-Life 2 crash at Loading screen.
Thank you for your reply, RockmasteR.
Sorry, I made a mistake. It must be DirectX 9.0. What I meant was that I used the DirectX installer/updater provided at their website and downloaded all necessary software and all updates possible for my OS. I must note, though, that if this was my problem, it is likely that neither Portal nor TF2 would have worked; also note that the thread I linked, which I've said to have followed, suggests the implementation of a "code" which forces the game to run on previous versions of DirectX, in this case 9 and 8. Considering those two things, is it safe to assume it is, indeed, not DirectX? I will change the information on my original post to prevent any further confusion. EDIT: Seems I cannot edit my original post. Last edited by Pierceful; 02-28-2009 at 09:03 AM. |
