GTA IV has a bad rap?
Hey all, I've been looking around a few websites lately researching a bit on GTA IV, and it seems alot of people are having SERIOUS issues with it. Seems its not really optimized all that well for PC?
Anyone here have thoughts on the subject I don't want to blow my 50 USD on a buggy game

Re: GTA IV has a bad rap?
Its pretty good on the 360 but the inherrent problem lies in Games for Windows Live, every game i had that runs on it always seems to have problems either running or installing or it crashes mid game etc.
Fallout 3 i had problems with just getting it started but once i did the game was good. Honestly if you think the game is good enough for the trouble you'll probly go through with it then go for it otherwise dont waste your money man ^^ EDIT: Oh yeah i forgot to mention i loved GTA4, so personally if i didnt own a 360 i'd have gotten it on the pc

Re: GTA IV has a bad rap?
My opinions:
* Half decent game. * I can't be bothered with all the hoops you have to jump through just to run it. * It's a poorly optimized system hog. * I'll be waiting for more patches and an upgrade on my system before I come back to it. |

Re: GTA IV has a bad rap?
I think the latest patch fix the poor optimization on most systems
whats your System specs? RAM CPU Video Card Motherboard Power Supply Unit it needs a pretty high end machine its a lot like crysis at its day except not as pretty. |

Re: GTA IV has a bad rap?
well I'm not so sure....
you should probably have 4gbs of ram and they super optimized the Video options in GTA 4 but your CPU might be lagging or it could just beat the minimum requiremnts your system seems borderline to run it Nice choice on the PSU! try this http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10296/ you meet the publishers minimum specs but not the yougamers.com minimum which set a much more realistic minimum spec |

Re: GTA IV has a bad rap?
Similar system to mine, maybe slightly slower.
If I turn everything on high, I get about 20FPS. That goes down in heavily populated areas, so it makes driving smoothly kind of hard. It doesn't look that great on lower settings either. Like Ninja said, it requires a machine that's powerful enough to run Crysis, but doesn't look as nice. |

Re: GTA IV has a bad rap?
Ouch @ 20fps.
To Zero, yeah if you can grab 2 more sticks of 1GB memory wont make a huge difference, but it will make a difference is the thing, also it kills some of the drainage you get from vista (p.o.s XD). Okay as for whether its worth it, is really up to you, personally i hate doing hoops for games but currently i just went through some with DoW2 lol so i cant talk. Okay what i suggest to do is, because other people have already conquered the hoops loops and jumps you should do some research and find the solutions before you encounter them that way your prepared and can get it all out of the way in less of the time normally. |

Re: GTA IV has a bad rap?
I've never put GTA 4 on very high because the difference from high to ver high isn't noticable.
The game is prettier than the 360 version and having 4 gbs of ram is nice and its worth it on any gaming system since ram is only at DDR 800mhz is around $60 for 2 x 2 gb sticks of ram |

Re: GTA IV has a bad rap?
Okay so here's one last question. For upping it to 4gbs of ram should I get two 2gb sticks and run them dual channel, or just pick up another 2 1gb sticks? I've been told the dual channel set up provides significantly more performance.
Thanks for the help and advice mates

Re: GTA IV has a bad rap?
you are setup for Dual channel
can you post your motherboard so we can find compatible ram for you. This ram wil probably help your computer stay a little faster for all games since it won't be near the maximum amount of ram used up. Since you know Vista is way too big a resource hog |
