Hello World,
Ok, so I've got this game called Diablo II, perhaps youve heard of it, . I had some problems updating the thing, and could no longer log in. I asked Blizzard software to give me a hand. Of course what does any tech support guy tell you do do?.....uninstall the software. Well, I looked around, and no one could give me any more competent advice, so I did just that. Now, I no longer have a problem logging in....it's not a problem because I never get that far. I double click the exe, and get....nothing, nada, the game doesn't really run. I say really, because the exe is actually up and running as a process, and must eventually be terminated. No one has been able to offer any support, and blizzard said to,....do I have to complete this one? Anyway, if someone can give me a suggestion, anything other than re-installing,....i'd appreciated it. Reyak |

Re: Diablo II Woes
use revo uninstaller this will rid your system of any trace of the game
gone are; registry entries old folders and everything to do with the game http://www.revouninstaller.com/ I can't wait for Diablo 3! I'm sorry my first suggestion is to re install but it should make it a super clean re install and you can use CCleaner to get rid of old registry items too http://www.ccleaner.com/ |

Re: Diablo II Woes
thanx for the tip on Revo. I think I'll be using it exlusivly from here on in, I like it.
Unfortunatly, it didn't worlk. I uninstalled it with revo, cleaned my reg, and rebooted. Then I reinstalled, and,... I'm in the same place. Exactly the same place. the exes are running (diabloii.exe, and game.exe), but they do nothing like background progs. I tried just letting them run, but nothing changed.

Re: Diablo II Woes
do you have another computer? install it on that - Diablo 2 really doesn't need anything fancy to run - maybe thats the problem: your comp is too high end - funny but is possible

Re: Diablo II Woes
Just tried installing DirectX. I needed an update anyway. After installing, I rebooted, and tried again. nothing.
Yes, I used Advanced in Revo. High End? um,...lets see.....uh,......BWAHAHAHA!!.....um...no. lol. Anyway, I dont have another computer, wish I did, it would save me time on the rare occation this thing completely dies. I don't have much running, but I will try running it again with them all disabled.

Re: Diablo II Woes
Not entirely sure when it started....mind you I found out about the update problem becuase I just got back online after a very long time. If I restore to a few days ago, I might wind up with the same problem as before, the game working, but being unable to log in. If I try and restore it to a time I know the whole setup worked, it could have been a year or more, and I doubt I have one from then.

Re: Diablo II Woes
did you try directdraw2d? i had that problem with direct3d, worked with 2d though.
try this: Go into the Diablo 2 directory. Then, double right click on D2VidTst.exe. Select run test. Once finish select DirectDraw(2D) then hit OK. does it work?

Re: Diablo II Woes
ive tried 2d and 3d, and even tried changing the reg to not require graphics testing. nothing works.I tried changing the compatablity mode to other systems, and that didn't work either. I even tried turning off virtual memory. This has to be the oddest glitch ive seen. This program has worked perfectly before, I used to play it for hours on end.

Re: Diablo II Woes
ok, game is fixed. A little scotch tape and some bubble gum does a man good sometimes.
Ok, so I tried a bunch of other things I won't get into. What did work a little was taking the disk out of the drive, and relaunching. Something visual finally happened!...it asked for the disk....so, I put it in, and....nothing, dead. I figured, maybe it's a disk prob so I found a nocd somewhere, and installed it. Diablo II ran, it updated, patched itself, and no worries, it's working perfectly. Thank you everyone for your help, i'd have given up long before now without you. Reyak

Re: Diablo II Woes
....on a side note, I wish i'd have gotten some kind of error. Nothing happening at all gave me no help at all. It almost makes me wish for those old blue screens......almost.
Night all - Thanx
