Whenever I try play Supreme Commander the FPS drops to about 2 whenever there's around ten or more units doing something on screen. And during battles it drops to under one.

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2, Vista

8 GB available hard drive space
128 MB video RAM or greater, with DirectX 9 Vertex Shader / Pixel Shader 2.0 support (Nvidia 6x00 or better)
Sound card, speakers or headphones
Broadband internet connection (DSL/Cable).

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
3.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor or better
1 GB RAM or better
8 GB available hard drive space

Re: Supreme Commander Performance

if you running the game on very high res and high video settings, try to decrease the res and the video settings, like on medium and try to play the game.
a Geforce 7600GT won't be able to run the game at max settings
a Geforce 6800 GT is a bit better than 7600 GT in a way

Re: Supreme Commander Performance

OK, I tried that and still the same problem. I noticed it also slows down significantly when I go into the skirmish menu.

I run the game in windowed mode but it covers most of my screen so about 1280x1024

Re: Supreme Commander Performance

windowed mode could create lagging issues, try to run the game at full screen
and 1280 x 1024 is high res for a 7600 GT
try it on 1024 x 768 full screen and medium settings and see if there is any changes

Re: Supreme Commander Performance

SupCom is all about the CPU and RAM. Graphics means virtually nothing.
Try playing with just 1 AI and set the unit limit down to about 250.

Also, try playing on the smaller maps. 5x5km or 10x10km is probably about all you could handle.
