help

Hi, I just bought a GeForce 8600gt graphics card and have successfully installed it and have updated to the latest graphics cards. My goal in this was to be able to play crysis on at least Medium settings. Everything seems to be working fine i DID NOT use the disk that came with my graphics card because whenever i put a disk in my drive i have to go to computer then the disk drive and manually pull out or run any files i need. Instead i used Nvidia.com and installed the latest graphics card driver from there.Anyways so when i play crysis on LOW settings it seems to run OKAY, i couldn't really say smoothly. I've looked up my graphics card and everybody says they can easily run on mid-high settings. (btw I AM AN EXTREME NOOBY AT PC GAMING i'm very good with computers, easily figured out how to install graphics card but yeah this is my first PC game besides those free online ones like combat arms.) Anways here are my computer specs

Operating System: Windows Vista Home premium (6.0 Build 6001)

Proccessor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), ~3GHz

Memory: 3070MB RAM

DirectX version: DirectX 10

___---Display---___

Name: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

Approx. Total Memory: 1395MB

Current Display Mode 1280 X 1024

Current Screen Refresh rate: 60 Hertz

(i have a widescreen 19" monitor wither max of 1440x900 resolution with 720p HD support and a bunch of other stuff)

I Believe thats all the info you should need but feel free to ask me ANY questions just remember that I'm a newbie. PLEASE help me asap i've waited forever for this graphics card to come only to be disappointed by another computer problem, also my crysis disk is absolutely SPOTLESS if your wondering no scratches whatsoever, brand new

Thanks, Brian

Re: help

What type of Power supply do you have. If the specs on it are too low to provide enogh juice to the GPU then you may get lag due to overheating.

Re: help

You might try opening the Nvidia control panel and going under the 3D settings tab. From there go to "manage 3D settings". Look for Crysis under the programs tab. If you find it, try shutting off all the extra post-processing stuff that might be enable for the game. This stuff is extra. And I don't think it will effect the in-game settings of Crysis. I had a similar problem with Medal of Honor: Airborne. I have a 9600gt and it was lagging all over the place. Turns out, I had all that extra stuff enabled in the control panel. Now I can play the game at the max settings in the game.

Re: help

I doubt it can run any higher than medium settings with some on low settings

its a low end"ish" card

if your a gamer the only cards you should be looking at are cards that are like this
x8xx cards

like a 9800GT
or a 8800GT

the GTX series is different though

Re: help

while your playing crysis, press the tilda key, its the [~] key, to open the console, and then copy this in: r_DisplayInfo = 1. This will show your fps while your playing, which you can use to also judge how well it is running.

Even running at 1280 X 1024, your system really will not be able to handle med-high settings on Crysis. It is a very demanding, you should try decreasing the graphics more, and try different things, such as running in DX9 versus DX10, turning off AA settings etc.
