COD5 launch error

I see I'm not alone in this area of frustration. I have read and followed the 10 steps posted for trying to fix the most obvious culprits on the launch error. I've run the minimum requirements test and all passed. Updated all my drivers, directx, reinstalled the game and installed the patch.

My System: Home built, Windows Vista 32, Intel 4.3GHz, 2G Ram, nVidia GeForce 6800 GT, SB Audigy 2.

Re: COD5 launch error

to me the it looks like the patch didn't work properly

they both have the same version "1.0.0.1"

did you install the patch where it needed to go?
is there a readme file that comes with patch?

Re: COD5 launch error

Thanks Mcninjaguy. I hadn't paid any mind to the version numbers. I only noticed some changes in a few other places. The patch was self extract and I don't remember if I was given the option to specify a location. I will try again though.

Re: COD5 launch error

Well I tried to install it again. I wasn't given the option of where to put it. I did run it again and was informed (by the program) that the patch was already installed. And no there wasn't any files except for the patch. Sooo...now what?

Re: COD5 launch error

Well I decided to break down and make the call. Yes, I called Activision. I was told to roll back the video driver to one more stable. One they recommended. I did. And to shut down all the start-up stuff and non windows services. I did. Now its worse. I cant even get to the main menu now as before I was. I emailed 'em back. We'll see what happens.

I'm building a gaming PC (waiting for yet another (#3) ASUS MB to come) and will probably give up on trying to get the game to work on the PC I'm using now.

Re: COD5 launch error

I tried several older drivers with no luck. The techy guys at Activison moved me on up the ladder. This fella had me change my sound default play back from 96000 to 48000. I was able to play the game but had several "Blue Screens of Death". Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen one of those. On the last memory dump I lost my progress saves and now I have to start all over. Something is still causing some instability.

Thanks so far for the input thus far. And if any of you have the same issue, try the sound thing.

Re: COD5 launch error

A launch error in Call of Duty:World at War is usually caused by not have been patched up to 1.1. That is what i would get remedied first.
