Slowdown/hiccups during gameplay.

I recently purchased a new rig with 6gs of RAM, Intel 2 Quad Core processor, 550w PSU, and a Radeon 4870. Now the first couple days I played World of Warcraft smooth as butter on max settings but now I am experiencing minor hiccups every 15-20 seconds. I am somewhat of a perfectionist and can't stand this. What could be wrong?

No so far WoW is the only game I've been playing. Also yes I have downloaded the latest drivers and the latest version of DirectX.

550W for a power supply on that system is quite low. It needs a minimum of 650W with a 12v Rail of 40A.

^What Aus_Karlos said^

Also, I've been reading tons of posts with people having problems with intermittent stuttering/lag with WOW but all their other games are fine.
Leads me to believe there may be some problems with either the servers or the latest patch, simply because of the sheer amount of complaints.

But I would definitely look at getting a better PSU.

Re: Slowdown/hiccups during gameplay.

Awesome, thanks for the quick responses guys. I'll go and buy a 850W PSU tomorrow. :] Hopefully it'll solve the problem, if not then I'm sure its just WoW. ;)

Re: Slowdown/hiccups during gameplay.

a PSU like this one is cheap and of excellent quality

PSU
Corsair 850w (Single rail with 70A - powerful!)
$139
after rebate $119
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139009

most 850w PSU's I've seen are around $200

I probably won't be able to replace it for another day or so think I'll be fine with what I have in the mean time?

Well its a brand new rig so I doubt it has anything to do with it being dusty/dirty. But I went out and exchanged my PSU for a new 700w PSU. I still plan on getting a 850w PSU but I gotta wait for it to get here.
