[SOLVED] Counter strike non-steam ?

Hello, I have the old counter strike that came with half life 1 can i play online without steam ? I carnt find any patches and wont install steam for one game. I dont know which version i have but it came with half life generations (halflife, Op force, CS).

I used to love this game, i hope steam havent killed it.

Re: Counter strike non-steam ?

I don't think that you can play CS without steam. They turned off those servers a long time ago. But steam is really a great program, and there's no reason not to use it, even for one game. I've bought like 20 games on steam over the years and I'm very pleased with how it works for content distribution and playing games as well.

Re: Counter strike non-steam ?

If you mean CS 1.6, you don't need Steam to play it.

Just a quick Google Search turns up a bunch of servers.

Re: Counter strike non-steam ?

If you have the original CD Key for CS1.6 you can add that to your steam account. This will allow you to play on steam servers for CS1.6. However to play on these servers you will have to download the new version of CS1.6. This shouldn't be to much.

Re: Counter strike non-steam ?

The new server system has anti-cheating technology built in for a more fair gaming experience. Steam is not so bad. The thing that bothers me is the updates. I wish it were a more silent process.
