COD 5: World At War - Lag In x64 Bit Vista!
I have just uninstalled XP & installed Vista Home Premium (x64).
When XP was installed, COD 5 ran like a dream. No lag/stuttering whatsoever, but now that Vista is installed I seem to be experiencing problems. There is definitely some lag ingame now that I've installed Vista. You probably wouldn't even notice it if I made a recording, but knowing it's there and seeing it lag every so often is EXTREMELY annoying. I know for a FACT 100% that it wasn't there when XP was installed. Now I remember last time I installed Vista, a few months back, a game I was playing at the time (Guild Wars) which ran smooth as hell in XP became extremely unstable & I suffered lag/stuttering etc in Vista, therefore I reinstalled XP. I don't particularly want to have to reinstall XP again, as the number one reason I purchased a 64 bit OS was for games, but if it's just gonna cause lag/stuttering then I feel I may have wasted my money. I can't understand WHY exactly it'd run perfectly fine in XP but not in Vista 64 bit (which is supposedly better for gaming). I spoke to somebody and they said something like "32 bit games/programs run in an emulation mode on 64 bit Vista". Could this have anything to do with it? The annoying thing is, you guys probably have no idea how to help me and therefore I feel I'm probably wasting my time, but if I can get any help to sort this problem out, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: COD 5: World At War - Lag In x64 Bit Vista!
I generally find that if I reinstall a game or run a game with none of the memory sucking programs running in the background then I generally get better performance. Also you need to post your system specs so that members can get a better look at your system to find out what might be the problem. Perhaps the Power Supply might be the culprit or perhaps the memory could be too low....Vista is always higher for games, usually at least half a gig higher than XP for gaming. Running the game as an Administrator is said to help although it hasn't done me a lick of good with GRAW 2. Post your specs and we'll go from there.

Re: COD 5: World At War - Lag In x64 Bit Vista!
PC Specs:
CPU - Intel Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz (Outdated I know) Video Card - 640mb Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS (all latest drivers installed) Ram - 2gb DDR II (waiting for another 2gb to arrive in mail) OS - Windows Vista Home Premium (x64) PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower 750w Resolution - 1440x900 Yes not the best specs in the World, but the game ran flawlessly on XP even on max settings. Now it's in Vista, it's started lagging |

Re: COD 5: World At War - Lag In x64 Bit Vista!
The problem often faced with Vista for gaming is the memory. Most times when you run a game and you find you might be getting an issue with game lag you might want to reinstall without all your other programs running at the same time. Disconnect from the internet if you don't plan on co-op play so you can turn the firewall off. Also get some more RAM. I have a minimum of 4 Gigs which I picked for the simple fact that it's always better to have the extra memory and not need it than to need it and not have it. You can try those things and if it's available to you check the v sync on the video settings in the game...not to sure when it might be...on crysis it's in the aadvanced options. I have heard how that can improve the fps on a game if you turn it off.

@derekjones
in post #3 Vanchatron says that he is getting another 2 gigs @Vanchatron whats your motherboard? vista would use up a lot more cpu usage too so depending on what motherboard you have maybe you can upgrade to this cpu? Intel 8400 wolfdale dual core 3.ghz (can be overclocked to 3.4ghz easily on air cooling) $164 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037 I do like your system but your weak link is definitely your pentium CPU its bottlenecking your gaming experience |

Re: COD 5: World At War - Lag In x64 Bit Vista!
Yeah hopefully the extra memory does the trick. I've got the E8400 @ 3.0 Ghz. Works great with no problems. Haven't tried the O.C. too much yet. Not too sure of the proper settings I just basically try to use the utility on my Motherboard....AI Suite. It seems to work fine but then I get a warning that the Overclock has failed and it doesn't seem to really be that high. Perhaps I should invest in a better cooling solution. Some of the games I have such as the Witcher, Enhanced Version are set up to take advantage of the 64 bit technology as well as ultilizing multicore systems which is right up there with the E8400 and Vista. Now with the Memory...the frequency the memory is would really benefit if you are looking for something that won't overheat too much while playing some memory intense games. I really like the HPC Reaper memory from OCZ as well as the attacheable fan unit as well....pretty good solutions so you don't bake the inside of the case.

Re: COD 5: World At War - Lag In x64 Bit Vista!
your motherboard is good to go!
IF you don't really want to use the defualt heatsink I'll recommend a couple heatsinks Most expensive I'd recommend $54 Zalman 110mm fan heatsink http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118019 $46 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118044 Xigmatec 120mm cooler $36 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233003 and get some good thermal paste http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100012 |

Re: COD 5: World At War - Lag In x64 Bit Vista!
I Just set a new benchmark with my HD 4850. I ran the ATI Autotune and managed a 690 Mhz Core Clock and a 1163 Mhz Memory Clock which by my guess is pretty good for a card that wasn't suppose to overclock at all and a 51 degree temp on the card with manual fan control at 75%. Plus I got my 3.6 Ghz Overclock on my E8400 all with a 30 degree CPU Temp using AI Suite....Me Like Very Much...

Love the Gigabyte Mobo You chose...very nice not to mention the option to use ddr2 and ddr3 modules. Love the option. It should be a very nice platform on which to build a killer system.

As far as Motherboards go I can't wait to see what the benchmarks for the new ones that can utilize both SLI and Crossfire on the same board. Should be pretty sweet with the new i7 Proc.

Re: COD 5: World At War - Lag In x64 Bit Vista!
load your task manager see what all you got running and make sure you have about a gig and a half or more and set the call of duty to above normal it should run smoother cause it will put it above the non serious programs vista tries to run under your nose. your processor is the only thing id switch to amd but your computer should run it just fine.
