Battlefield 2142 Crash.....Vista?

Hi all

I have had Battlefield 2142 for almost a year and it worked fine on my old computer with mid range graphics and no frame rate issues. I recently got a new laptop and the game won't even start.

It shows the loading screen and then the screen turns black like normal and then it just goes back to the desktop with the little "windows is searching for a solution."

I have an ASUS F8Vr
CPU: P8600 (centrino 2)
RAM: 3gb
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470
OS: Vista Home Premium

I have played with the compatibility settings setting run as admin etc. Also set to work with XP but then says CD not inserted. Worth noting is at installation it says when trying to install directx says none detected, please ensure 9c or later. But im pretty sure i have the latest drivers.

My laptop runs "dead space" on mid range graphics no problems at all

Is it a vista issue? Or is it the drivers?

Re: Battlefield 2142 Crash.....Vista?

Unfortunately the patching process didn't work.

I updated to the latest bf2142 patch (v1.5) and it installed successfully

I double clicked on the shortcut and then the same thing happened....reads cd no probs...goes to black screen then straight back to desktop saying vista's checking for a solution.

This computer is brand new so there shouldn't be any conflicts.

Bare in mind the process doesnt get past the walker and ea sign...doesnt get that far....goes back to desktop just before

Re: Battlefield 2142 Crash.....Vista?

i've tried everything on the net with no success...its not a question of the computer capabilities...i mean dead space is demanding and has no probs running that...

anyone?

Re: Battlefield 2142 Crash.....Vista?

for anyone interested in the solution...here it is:

i plugged the laptop into another monitor (basic LCD monitor) and ran the game through that although when i switched back to the laptop it crashed again. so...

once your in the game through another monitor, play with the settings...for me...the laptop needed 61hertz and now that ive changed it to that it boots up properly and runs no problems

anyway i thought i should let you know incase anyone else had the same problem

cheers
