[SOLVED] GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police compute
I have Quadcore Q9300 pc with 4gb ram, Nvidia 8800GT 512MB and Windows Xp SP3 32bit
When i first installed, videos were fine, but after first pc restart (i suppose), they got wrong. When i try to attempt mission, mission videos goes like 1fps (also there are "cars jumping" in the background, don`t know why). The same 1fps problem is occuring when i use taxi, use police pc in police car, try to eat something, try to change clothes ... Otherwise game goes without a problem, anybody has a clue? Thank you beforehand. |

Re: GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police computer
Yes, I`ve reinstalled a few times, updated Nvidia drivers, updated all possible drivers, scanned fo viruses/malware`n`stuff. It ahs to do something vith video setings i suppose, but I can`t get my hand on it, because game runs perfectly. Also tried different video settings but still no use. For example, my friend can see video normaly, but he doesn`t have a radar (just empty round)
P.S. DirectX reinstall also didn`t help, maybe it has to do something with shading? Last edited by RayLV; 01-02-2009 at 04:44 AM. |

Re: GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police computer
Problem solved by downloading and installing Bink video codec (that is the type of video which is used in the games)

The game should install Bink during setup, unless you have a faulty copy with missing files. Thanks for posting your solution.

I think maybe it has something to do with binkw32.dll file Do I have to have this file in my windows folder, because i don`t?

Re: GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police compute
I'm sorry I'm not really following.
You say the problem happens when you are in game and trying to do things like eat, change clothes, get in a taxi. If so, that has nothing to do with Bink. That's in game, not a video, it doesn't rely on Bink at all. The binkw32.dll file should be in ...\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV folder. Also about your friend not having a radar. I've read a few instances of people fixing that problem by installing the Nvidia 180.84 beta drivers (If he/she has a Nvidia GPU that is). |

Re: GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police compute
Yes, the problems happens in the game, but also when I watch mission videos (like the video in the beginning in the game), they go like 1fps, but audio is still ok, so it looks like I see every first frame of every second. For example, if video consists of 5sec and got altogether 150 frames, i see only like every 20th > 1 21 41 61 81 101 121 141

Here are the videos to show my point.
http://www.fileshost.com/en/file/773...00043-3GP.html Here you can see, maybe you can`t hear the sound, but you can see the picture laggind, despite sound is ok http://www.fileshost.com/en/file/773...00045-3GP.html On second video you can notice, that at very start of video game is going smoothly, but as soon as i press E to by hotdog, it starts lagging. |

Re: GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police compute
I might be able to explain the lag on the hot dog stand. It could be the smoke/steam from the stand. I get a few frame drops when i use the stand. Although im not to sure what causes the lag to stay for you.
But this could indicate corrupt drivers as GTA is very sensitive it seems when drivers are not properly installed. Try this program called Driver Sweeper follow the instructions on that webpage on how to properly remove your graphical drivers and then re-install them.

Re: GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police compute
Just tried this Driver Sweeper and it didn`t help. The smoke could explain hot dog lag, nut still i`m getting this super-slow-action on every action i take when i press E button - taxi, police pc, darts, bowling, even when i must take somebody somewhere (it takes a very long time after p press G and somebody gets in my car). I had 2 times when game went perfectly - when i installed it for the first time (after restart it started to lag), and after i installed RadGameTools(official bink codec), and still after restart it went lag again.

Re: GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police compute
Also, if it may help - second time (after I installed Radgametools), when I turned on the game, I got some kind of percentage going on at start menu. Don`t know what it was though.

Re: GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police compute
I'm not sure why you're downloading the Bink files from RadGameTools when they are already included as part of the GTA4 installation. Maybe there's a conflict between the version you have installed and the version that the game is expecting to use.
Try uninstalling the RadGameTools files and GTA4, then reboot to clear any temp files, and reinstall the game from the DVD. All the required files are there on the disc.

Re: GTA4 Low fps isssues watching mission video, driving cab, using police compute
Problem solved. It was my firewall (Outpost), which was blocking some part of Social Club. I don`t know how, but now I turn it off and there are no problems whatsoever. Not first time when I have gaming problems because of Outpost. Anyway thanks for your help :)
