Re: KOTOR problem

KOTOR problem

After the game launches, once you're at the main menu, tab out to the desktop and set the processor affinity for swkotor.exe to only one core (instead of both). If that makes no sense, to do this: bring up the task manager, go to the process list and look for swkotor.exe, right click on it, and click 'set affinity'. Remove a checkmark from one of the cores listed.

The problem is, you have to do this EVERY TIME. It's a pain in the butt; however, it DOES work.
Found this post a few days ago...

I had upgraded my comp to a dual core and was thinking this was my problem as well. Did what is sugested above (TY btw) and I'm still having CTDs within a short time of playing.

I was about 6hrs into the game before my updates to my system. New cpu, video card, ram and lcd...

And now I realize that I've also updated Win to SP3 since I last played, now I'm thinking that this might be the problem from my searching the web for answers.

I have a 8800GT/500mb, 2g ram, AMD X2 5600+, XP SP3...I can run Mass Effect with all the bells and whistles but I now can't play a 4 year old game that I could 6mo ago...I'm not exactly pleased.

But I thought I'd come and vent a bit and throw myself to the mercies of the experts here, with the hope that there might be an idea or suggestion that might help me.

I can play 2-5 min and the game crashes, I done all the normal system maintenance type precautions, I'm clutter free and defragged with the latest driver. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, tried quick saves, noraml saves, tried using a different drive...

It still crashes (and i'm on the 1st world still not in a desert btw) and I get the MS Error report, which I send on it's merry way unsure if the info gathered is still being looked at by anyone :(

So, I'm thinking it's the SP3...anyone else have any info about this possibility?

Or any other suggestion I could try?

I'm all ears as they say heh

And would appreciate any thoughts or ideas!

My rig:

ASRock 939 Dual
AMD64 X2 5600+
2Gig A-DATA DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
eVGA 8800GT 512mem
500GB Seagate 16MB cache
200GB Seagate 8MB cache
80GB WD SE 8MB cache
Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1693S
Rosewill 550W Dual Fan PS
Windows XP Pro SP3
