Hi.
What Power Supply are you using with that?
Also, have you checked the temps, both idle and when the system is under load? (You can use programs like CoreTemp and GPU-Z for that, both in my signature)

You did install the motherboard drivers right?

Which game/games are you experiencing the lag with?
Was that 40C temp for you CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD or just an ambient temp? Also, was that when the system was idle or after a few minutes of running a game (under load)?

Download GPU-Z (in my signature) and check what both your idle and under load temps are on the Graphics card.

Also, when you updated your GPU drivers, did you completely remove the old ones first?

Re: AMD QUAD CORE GEFORCE 9800gt gaming problems

I dont trust Antec earthwatts to run any rig i build. They use generic parts that are cheap. I would especially not run a Quad core and a 9 series card off of a 500W PSU even if it was the best PSU brand.
I suggest a more suitable PSU will a little more juice, round about 650W to 700W. Go for Thermaltake, SilverStone or Corsair

Re: AMD QUAD CORE GEFORCE 9800gt gaming problems

Please give more details about the nv4_disp.dll error and the method you used to install your graphics driver.

Does the error appear in a window or a blue screen? If it's a blue screen, post back with the full message and Stop code.

Re: AMD QUAD CORE GEFORCE 9800gt gaming problems

it says
The nv4_disp display driver has stopped working normally save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft. its not a blue screen my display just turns into a 8 bit display. i installed my video card with the cd the graphics card came with and updated with the NVidia site

A new and more powerful PSU would be a good bet.
