Starcraft Lag problem

My problem pertains to Starcraft. Those of you who have played know that it has a repuatation for being low quality and break often... but in anycase, my problem SEEMS simple.

Whenever i try to play the game, it lags, BAD. The lag carries on Battle.net, Single player, campaign, and LAN games. This problem has been going on since i first installed the game, but there was ONE day where the lag went away after a game restart, that no longer works.

Tried Attempts:
-It's not a network problem, because my brother on the same net work, on the computer next to me.
-It's not a memory problem, i have 10 GB of free space.
-It's not a hardware problem, i have a better Motherboard and Video card than my brother.

Partially Succesful attempts:
-Today i updated my video card driver. AND IT WORKED, the lag went away.... BUT, it wanted me to download a patch before i could play again. So i did, and it went BACK to the lag. It seems they will not work together, as if they conflict with each other.

Sorry for the time it took to write about such a small problem, but im kinda desprate to get back into starcraft, anyone have an ideas?

P.S. talking to blizzard reps about this is absolutely useless, as everyone who plays this knows. They waste your time in asking stupid questions that you have already checked. And then when they run out of ideas, they ask you to write and email to a support forum that they don't reply to.
