Bizzare Lag

I've recently been playing a few games on my computer but they're beginning to lag quite badly, which they never used to do. Games like Assassins creed and Rainbow 6 vegas. They still lag the same even if the graphics are lowest.

I actually wiped my computer because of it and the error still occurs. So I'm guessing either hardware or Driver problems, I've been playing it with and without other processes so I doubt it has anything to do with CPU.

System Specs

OS - Windows XP Home - SP2
DirectX - 9.0
Power: 700w
HD: 150GB (50GB used)
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Graphics Card:ATI Radeon X1950 Pro

Things I've tried
Wiping computer.
Clearing registry.
Playing with only the essential processes.
Upgrading all drivers.
Playing with all graphics on lowest.
Testing with multiple games.
Praying.

Thanks in advance for any help given. It's torture trying to play laggy games.

Re: Bizzare Lag

you could have dust problems in your comp and driver problems try spraying out your comp with a can of compressed air

get the latest drivers

Smile Re: Bizzare Lag

As Mcninjaguy said, it sounds like a heat problem.

If your up to it the challenge, you could confirm this theory by doing a little experiment. If you were to download, install, and run SpeedFan while your playing the game, we could see how hot things are getting. When it starts to lag, quickly quit your game and write down the temperatures of your CPU cores and GPU as displayed by SpeedFan.

Here is the link to the download:

Good luck, and please let us know how it goes!

I've done the test for you and it doesnt look too good 8D. This is without the compressed air being used to clean dust:

Temp1: 54°C
Temp2: 36°C
Temp3: -128°C
HD0: 32°C
Core: 57°C

----

Hot O_O...

The only problem for me is getting hold on a can of compressed air, I cant find anywhere that sells it.

Re: Bizzare Lag

Well, I've solved the issue.

I cleaned some dust out of the fan blowing air into my CPU and unplugged and removed 2 colourful fans from the back of my computer. That did the trick, I'm not sure if it will stay that way but so far so good. The core temp and the 'Temp1' are high still when I play games but the lag's gone for now.

I guess I need a 800 PSU.

Thanks for the help anyway guys. :)

Re: Bizzare Lag

no you don't need a 800watt psu

for your system a 450w to 500w will do

It was the dust not allowing your components to be cooled off properly and please keeping spraying out your computer every 1 or 2 weeks

Re: Bizzare Lag

Be sure to get a "high quality" PSU. Even a 800w PSU can have problems.

Please read this if you have time to do so:
Power Supply Information and Selection

It could save your comptuer and your house...
