cant get xbox 360 controller to work

hey i cant get my xbox 360 controller to work on mugen i know its not the game but i believe it might be something with my drivers and communication port i had to completely wipe my computers memory a whhile ago and i made a back up of my old files under the ports tab on my device manager it had communication port (com1) twice and i had to disable one or else my computer would freeze on the start up i unistalled the one and my computer starts up fine now but now when i put the xbox controller in the computer notices the controller and reads it but it doesn't allow me to use it i downloaded the xbox 360 accessory driver and all the other ones from the microsoft website my computer does the same thing with external harddrives it notices it and makes the sound but doesn't allow me to use it or go inside the external harddrive i think i have a problem with my pci simple communication controller because when i plugged in the external hardrive the driver poped up and said it was not installed so i think that is the reason the controller isn't working any help would be appreciated

First off, download and install Pinnacle Game Profiler to find out whether or not your controller will work with the game. Second, when you plugged the controller in to your PC, did windows ask you to install new hardware?

yeah windows asked me that and it said that the hardware was installed I saw the controllers on the device manager and everything but the computer just didn't recongnize them it knew they were plugged in but just wouldn't let me use it
