Battlefield 2 starts....then won't start later!

I have BF2 and have downloaded the newest patches. Here's my problem: I play it. Everything works fine. Then I quit. Hours later, I start it and nothing happens. All I see is the BF2 screen pop up on my desktop then it goes away. The game never starts. In order for me to fix it, I would have to restart my PC.

Anyone know the problem?

I had this problem ages ago, it seems that on some systems BF2 does not properly close down, if you open taskmanager you may find the BF2 exe is still running in the background or another exe that is linked to the game.
