Problem with Far Cry 2
Hey everyone,
Well, I recently got Far Cry 2, and when I was installing it, I was looking through the system requirements, and I met the recommended requirements with no problem. But when I get in the game, some problems rise... Everything runs perfect even on Optimal settings, I ran the Benchmark tool, and when it succeeded, I got 60-90 fps. But whenever anything physics based happens, (hitting barrels, posts, other vehicles) my fps drops below 1, and it sometimes crashes- At first I thought it was the video card drivers, so I got the most recent version, and the Far Cry 2 hotfix...I noticed a very good increase, but still some major lag during some events So then, I thought, since I was remodeling my main drive (using my primary as a backup driver, so things were scattered). I thought that I needed a good defrag (which I REALLY did). So I defragged, and tried again...no luck... So this morning, the first thought in my head was that it was my audio drivers, because I realized that the lag occurs during noisy events (once again hitting barrels, explosions, and I noticed lag during gunfire as well) Everytime I start my comp, it tells me the audio drivers are not installed (weird because there are 2 of the same devices in Device Manager, one is installed properly, one has the (!) error. But, since I do not have internet at my house right now, I could not update my drivers there. So, what I was wondering was that if this logic of the possibly buggy audio drivers are what is causing the lag...if not, can anyone clue me in to what it could be. I should not experience any lag with everything on low, but I still get less than 1fps sometimes. All help is appreciated, Thank you. |

Re: Problem with Far Cry 2
Thank you-
I was going to, but I must have completely spaced it >.< Processor: AMD Triple-Core 2.4GHz(overclocked to 2.8) RAM: 4GB G-Skill Dual Channel 800MHz RAM Video Card: Sapphire HD 3850 1GB DDR2 256-bit HDD: 140GB Western Digital SATA Harddrive Mobo: K9N2 SLI Platinum Before anyone says anything, it is not a heat issue, I had a few temperature monitors open, and I was making sure that was not the issue, the CPU runs at around 41 Celsius, and the video card tops out at 57. The motherboard has pretty good audio, so I do not have a PCI sound card in. Last night, I did update my audio drivers, and I found the strangest thing...when I do the Benchmark test on low, it drops to a minimum of .5fps, but with Optimal settings, and really high physics, it only went down to ~30fps...I have no idea how to explain that |
