Orange box - Half Life 2 does not launch

Hi,

Please see that I bought Orange box dvd Rom.

After installing, the game half life game does not launch.
There was no error during installation,neither there is any error when i launch the game.
It just says preparing to launch,after which it goes to time glass icon and next then regular arrow and nothing happens.
The pc does not hang,no crash or freezing,nothing.
I can work on any other application and pc runs fine.

After this
1. I checked my pc compatibility for orange box and it meets both minimum and recommended system requirement,in fact well above it.
2. Downloaded and re-installed latest graphic card driver from nvidia site
3. Uninstalled and re-installed the game
But the result is same

Below is my system specs
Intel Pentium Dual core E2180 @2.0GHZ
2GB RAM
NVidia geforce 8500 xfx 1 gb card
Screen resolution 1440X900
Direct X 9.0b (I checked the diagnostic tool,it works fine)

Any pointers /help will be greatly appreciated

The Orange Box requires the game service application called Steam in order to run any of the games included in it. Is your Steam account set up and working properly? And is it up to date with the games?

Hi Thanks for the reply
Yes,on installation
1. First the steam was installed
2. It was updated and activated
3. I installed Half -Life2 from the list of games available
4. It correctly shows HL2 as installed

When I launch the games
1. First steam gets launched
2. It connects to my steam account
3. says preparing to launch HL2
and then nothing
No error nothing

find steam.exe in your installed directory

right click
properties
compatibility
run as Admin

Open up Steam and go to the 'My Games' tab.
Does it list the status of HL2 as 100% Ready?

If not, you need to leave it for a while to update.

Same problem in my case. Everitng is up to date, but simply does not work. There is a problem with the Episode 1 as well ...
