Call of Duty 1 Fatal Error

I just got a new laptop, toshiba L300 satellite pro, 2 GB ram and 256 mb vedio ram intel.

I installed the game and when i started it, a window poppedup saying - your computer appears to have changed since the last time you ran call of duty, would you like the game to configure itself optimally to your new hardware?

i clicked on yes and then i got a fatal error which said - configure.csv:couldnt configure: -2531 CPU MHz 1024 sys MB 256 vid MB.
i reinstalled the game, but faced the same problem.

next time i tried by denying the game to configure itself optimally to to my new hardware, and the game started but the main screen was blank (i mean no background pictures) and when i clicked on ''new game'' nothing happened.

What does this mean? Can some one please help me out?
