half life 2 crashes at intro...

So I did the system requirements test for half life 2, and it said I passed:

Basically, my computer is literally about 1mm away from the "fast" option at the end (passes the recommended requirements).

However, when I come to run the game, even at the very lowest settings, it crashes at the very first scene where the man is talking to you. It goes to a black screen after about 5 seconds, and keeps repeating the same word ("job") until I close it.

Does anyone know how I can fix this please?
