Error message-help please!
Hey everyone. I am a total noob, but if anyone can help me I'd be greatly obliged. I am a member of morrowind forum, but they can't help me. Whenever I get on my copy and try to save, it gives me an error message, and asks if I want to continue running executable. I say yes--message keeeps popping up. I say no--Morrowind shuts down. HELP!!

Re: Error message-help please!
The only time I have had an error message like that is if a mod is incompatible with another I previously downloaded, installed and "plugged in" through the "Data Files" in the startup screen.
Did you download the Official Patch? This does fix some problems (The Morrowind GOTY already comes with this) There are some mods that could interfere with previously "saved games". The mod's readme should let you know. The "error" message may show up even with the safe ones and you just click on Yes to continue without any problems. However, Not all community made mods will get this error message. I believe this will not happen with the Official "Bethesda" ones either. Whether or not, a mod interferes with a Save Option, any crash I have had came from a mod incompatibility if one is missing a file or was corrupted during the download that could cause it. Or installed incompletely. Be sure to read the "readme.txt" after downloading but before installing and "plug in". Some mods not cleaned up thoroughly of "Evil GMST" before releasing is another reason. That link goes into some detail about Morrowind only mods with Tribunal patched versions of the Construction Set that caused problems. "Telephoros' List o'Mods" will help you understand more about this. It is also a good place for finding good mods to help flesh out your experience. If you are running "Morrowind" only, here is a compilation of "Vanilla" Morrowind Mods you may want to try. Be sure to back up your "saved games", datafiles and Morrowind.ini especially before installing. Most of these are still available and can be found through Telephoros, Planet Elder Scrolls or other good Morrowind download sites. My first experience with a crash came from a mod called "Darkshroudkeep", a fortress mod that kept saying I was missing a texture but asked for "continue running executable?". When I clicked "yes", it would crash. Because I had installed a few mods after it, it was a matter of remembering which ones and take notes. Just unclicked in turn until the crash stopped happening. Then I knew the offender. A friend downloaded a bunch of mods for hers, only to learn some are incompatible with each other because of overlap textures, meshes or some other reason. Quite a headache as a few were sizeable downloads (i.e."Colorful Morrowind", "Vibrant Morrowind", "Leafy Morrowind".) When she later bought Morrowind GOTY, she had a series of crashes after installing the Official patches for the Tribunal and Bloodmoon. Only after uninstalling and reinstalling the expansions...without the patches....did her game run smoothly. Hope this all helps you. Morrowind is a great game and "Vvardenfell" is a HUGE landmass to explore. Especially with all the mods that extend gameplay, questing and, as a RPG, involve you more in the story. |

Re: Error message-help please!
Sorry about that.
![]() "Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" Click here: Planet Elder Scrolls: Official Patches There are three (3) Official Patch versions depending on your game. Morrowind Patch 1.2.0722 (North American) Morrowind Patch 1.2.0722 (European) Morrowind Patch 1.2.0813 (French) Pick the one that will work with your version. The patch comes with an automatic installer. Just follow the directions. All Official Mods by Bethesda are good. Most Morrowind community mods run without any problems. When you download a Mod, make sure it is says it is for "Morrowind Only". There are a few that could affect "saved games". Be sure to read the modder's "readme.txt" before installing any mod. The "readme.txt" should tell you IF a problem could happen. To be safe, be sure to back up your "Saved Games" before installing any mod. Problems started after the first expansion, "Tribunal", was released. It made changes in the Morrowind TES Construction Set that comes with the game. Some modders made new Morrowind Only Mods using "Tribunal" specials but not thinking it would cause game crashes. I hope this explanation is better.
