Need help with directX
I recently reimaged my computer after a complete crash on a restart. My computer is mostly a gaming computer, but i do reports and other things on it also. After i reimaged my pc i started reinstallign my games, after i reinstalled the steam engine i reconnected my account and downloaded counter strike: source. After i downloaded it, i tried to run it and it ran, but i got the same message i got before the fatal crash, Internal Drive Directx3d not present()... or something like that. i went to a bunch of gaming sites about that, but before i could do anything to fix it, i tried to start it again, and it wouldnt even open, the load screen would come up and then disappear and the game would never start.
After that i tried to put Warcraft3 on it, and although ti let me install the game, when i tried to play it it said Directx 8.1c or higher(not sure exact version) required, i have directx 9 or 10, whichever is the latest out... i redownloaded all versions of the dirextx driver, but it always says i have newer drivers. I also recently got the new SPORE game that is out, $53.37 at walmart, and im on a tight budget so i dotn want it to be a waste of money, although it installed, it said it needed to connect to EA servers to verify ownership and that it couldnt find an internet connection, so i couldnt play it. when i got someone to help me, they somehow magically fixed it, after i tried everything but now the game is giving me the same type of message as Warcraft3 was. something like Directx driver not found[1002] so, after going to every forum i could find and not finding any explanation i finally joined one and tried to get some help, please help me figure this out if you can. Also if anyone knows of any other forum area this would be better in, please tell em so i can move it, or have an admin move it. Last edited by Pipsqueakedy; 10-15-2008 at 01:13 PM. |

Re: Need help with directX
Hi, welcome to TSF
When you say you reimaged your computer, what procedure did you use? Was it a clone backup or a reformat and reinstall of Windows? It looks like a problem with DirectX, graphics drivers or chipset drivers. Or possibly Windows system files. Please post your full system specs, particularly the motherboard and graphics card makes/models. Go to Start > Run, type dxdiag and click OK. Under the System tab, post back with the DirectX Version. Under the Display tab, post back with all the details in the Device and Drivers areas. Still in the Display tab of dxdiag, make sure the DirectDraw and Direct3D Acceleration options are enabled, then run the 2 tests. Any problems listed in the Notes box? Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager button. Are there any red or yellow flags beside any of the devices?
