hl2.exe stopped working [moved to new thread]

I'm getting a somewhat similar problem. I recently reinstalled the Orange Box, but for some reason only the Half-Life's work and the Portal and Team Fortress do not work. Whenever I run them it begins to launch then it stops and I pop-up tells me that 'hl2.exe' has stopped working. I dont know whats wrong.

im getting the hl2.exe stopped working problem too and I dont know what to do

Mine installation has been stuck at 3138/4575 MB for about an hour and only stops the installation when i put in disc 2

I have TEAM fortress 2 running OK on windows VISTA , it runs through the STEAM network , so if it doesnt connect , maybe start by checking if you have a firewall running, close it or open firewall configs and allow steam to connect online. Better thing is to close firewall.

Also, if you run VISTA , start TF 2 by right clicking on it and choose RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

Another thing is that you maybe have some conflict with a running aplication when you start the game, so try to close as many programs running in system tray that you dont need when playing.
