[SOLVED] Symantec Tamper Protection Alert
I'm getting the following message when I try to run a Nancy Drew game on my Windows XP machine:
------------------------------------------------------------ SYMANTEC TAMPER PROTECTION ALERT Target: C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\Rtvscan.exe Event Info: Open Process Action Taken: Logged Actor Process: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe (PID 2536) Time: Friday, October 10, 2008 11:56:34 PM ------------------------------------------------------------ The game doesn't start. I tried unchecking the tamper protection in the Symantec configuration and the game would still not run, although I no longer got the message. Note that the game was running until after I upgraded nvidia. Any help would be appreciated. - mestran |

Well, let's start with the obvious. Since you say that the game ran fine until you upgraded your nvidia driver, I would recommend roiling back the driver to the previous version. Is there any particular reason you updated the nvidia driver? Did you update to solve a problem, or just because there was a newer driver? As the experts tend to say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". If your system is running well, you are having no problems, and a new driver does not address any particular need you may have, do not update. Anyway, try rolling the nvidia driver back to the previous version you were using, and let us know what happens. Good luck.

Re: Symantec Tamper Protection Alert
Rolling back the driver did fix the problem -- thanks.
I installed the new driver as recommended by the tech-support site for the game I was playing in order to solve a critical problem with the game. Looks like I'll need to wait for a response from them...and it appears they don't work weekends. - mestran |
