[SOLVED] Games In Slo-Mo

Hello, i recently bought FIFA 09, however it was stuttering when playing matches and i was told that the new drivers from nvidia released last month would sort this so i downloaded and installed them. Now though most of my games are running in like slow motion, FIFA 09, FIFA 08, Crysis. COD4 is ok though.

I've tried rolling back the drivers but that didn't fix it so what can i do now please? I'm really baffled.

I've even used the Driver Cleaner Pro tool and done a clean install of the drivers from the disk i got with the graphics card which are really old and even that changed nothing.

Re: Games In Slo-Mo

Crysis isn't going to run that good on that machine no matter what you do.

From what I have read, it sounds like FIFA 09 has some stuttering issues. Have you looked for an update/patch?

Well it WAS running perfect on medium settings, no problems at all. I've never had any problems with games on this computer until now, i really wish i hadn't have touched the drivers now :(

Re: Games In Slo-Mo

That is weird that COD4 plays fine and the other don't.

When's the last time you did a re-format and re-install of Windows XP?

Sometimes, when it comes to video card drivers, you just need to wipe the slate clean and start over from scratch.

Never I don't want to lose everything i've ever done on this computer as i've kind of worked so hard configuring and tweaking it to just how i want it, i'm an organise freak lol

And anyway i actually stupidly lent the windows xp cd i had to a friend and never got it back so i don't think i could do a re-format anyway, i have the cd key on the outer case though but i'd still need a disc from somewhere.

Re: Games In Slo-Mo

I understand that there is not much you can do without a Windows XP Cd but if you are really an organization freak you should know that over time Windows get's very dis-organized. Mostly with the registry. There are registry cleaners but they tend not to get everything, or worse get too much and cause more problems. I've been on forums were guys are reformatting every 6 months or so. I myself thought that it wasn't necessary until I did it once. The performance increase was incredible (granted the machine was 5 yrs old). Now I do it all the time.

This is especially true when it comes to switching video card drivers. Some may argue that it's not really necessary when switching between different nVidia drivers (or ATI) but, again, I have seen posts were guys reformat whenever there is driver change of any kind. And since you have been running your machine for awhile, and changed drivers several times, and most importantly since you are having problems you should give it some thought.

Re: Games In Slo-Mo

Hey, it just hit me.

Have you updated your sound drivers or re-installed the ones you have. Sometimes corrupt sound drivers can cause really poor performance in games (and other areas as well). Might be worth a shot.

Re: Games In Slo-Mo

Thanks alot Pauldo! Managed to get hold of a dell windows xp cd from a friend and the reinstall worked perfect, fixed all the games. I've lost all my programs and everything but hey it's good to start a fresh once in a while i guess :D

oh and p.s. i didn't try it but i don't think it would of been the sound card drivers as i use the onboard sound device which is soundmax or something and them drivers haven't been updated for years lol

Re: Games In Slo-Mo

It was more for corrupt sound drivers as apposed to updating old ones but that is awesome that everything is running good again .
