Unable to run Timeshift Demo
I am unable to run the timeshift demo. I saw a friend playing Timeshift and wanted to test it, but the demo will not run for me. Whenever I hit Exe it simply flashed a windowed version of Timeshift on the screen which stayed for about half a second, then disappeared. I followed all directions in the "how to" post, but it still does not work. System specs are as follows:
Windows: Windows XP5.1 (Build 2600) Service Pack 2 Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.11 Memory (RAM): 2046 MB CPU Info: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz CPU Speed: 2390.0 MHz Sound card: SigmaTel Audio Display Adapters: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS | Winvnc video hook driver | NetMeeting driver | RDPDD Chained DD Screen Resolution: 1024 X 768 - 32 bit Network: Network Present Network Adapters: Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection - Packet Scheduler Miniport CD / DVD Drives: D: HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDRH10N COM Ports: COM3 LPT Ports: Mouse: 8 Button Wheel Mouse Present Hard Disks: C: 293.4GB Hard Disks - Free: C: 44.2GB USB Controllers: 7 host controllers. Firewire (1394): Not Detected PCMCIA (Laptops): Not Installed Manufacturer: Dell Inc. Product Make: Dell DXP061 AC Power Status: OnLine BIOS Info: AT/AT COMPATIBLE | 12/01/06 | DELL - 14 Time Zone: Eastern Standard Time Battery: No Battery Motherboard: Dell Inc. 0WG855 Modem: Not detected : : I currently have the recommended Nvidia forceware pack (163.75) installed, but Timeshift still does not run. Prior to installing 163.75 I had 175.19 installed and that did not work either. I re-installed and re-downloaded and re-installed the demo; so I doubt it is corrupted. I'm completly at a loss as to why it won't run, and I'd like to get the game, but I don't want to buy it if I have a tech issue so I can't run it. I have other games installed (BF2142, Sins of a Solar Empire, etc) and they are running fine, so the issue is specific to the Timeshift demo. Any advice on what I should do to try and fix it is greatly appreciated. EDIT: I got both the 163.75 drivers and the demo from this site: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_ti...downloads.html Don't know if that's relevant or not. Re: Unable to run Timeshift Demo
I dont have a solution for you but my system (AMD X2 3800+, 7600GS, 2 gigs RAM) did the exact same thing with the demo a few months ago. I never changed anything in my system since, but the game finally came on sale locally for $15 or so, so I got it. No problems - worked right out of the box. Good game, like half-life lite. Go figure.
Did the demo hang at the pre-shader screen or something like that. That's when mine did. |

Re: Unable to run Timeshift Demo
When I open the Demo it crashes immedietly. I.E. it flashes a windowed/resizing box which is the .exe at the top left (takes up maybe half the screen) and then disappears. It doesn't even get into the game, as in it crashes before it gets to showing the logos etc. So I can't get to the menu or anything like that, it doesn't let me even start the game since it crashes virtually instantly.

Re: Unable to run Timeshift Demo
Hmmm....Strange, especially since your system tops mine in every respect, and even though your power supply specs aren't posted, mine's a low-end supply so I'm sure yours at least matches mine.
The only other thing I found was this site : http://www.crysis-online.com/forum/i...ic=10478.0;all go there and search the page for the word "won't" (just do a find in the browser, and remember the apostrophe) and you should jump to a post about drivers recommended. It looks like older drivers are needed. The poster named Zulu-Cal had a problem with it and was replied to by poster David, then later on in the thread Zulu-Cal states he got the demo to work. Good luck. |

Re: Unable to run Timeshift Demo
I tried the 163.76 drivers, and rebooted and all. Same result. However, I did find something interesting with the task manager:
When I click the .exe it opens a 400 x 300 pixel window, maybe 3-4 seconds after I click the .exe, with the title "Timeshift" in the top left corner, which immedietly closes. I looked at the memory usage in the task manager and it would load between mid 20's to 30 mb before auto end tasking. Is there any location I should look for an error log in? Re: Unable to run Timeshift Demo
Alright, I tried the 177.92 driver. Same result. I did all the major windows updates (except sp3 which I don't intend to get). It still isn't running. However, I'm still seeing that buffering until 25-30 mb are loaded then auto end processing. I used the windows task manager and it always ends at the 25-30 mb loaded mark. Does anyone know why it would do this? Is there some place I should look for an error log for if it isn't loading the .exe right?
