Warcraft freezing - question about windows error log
I've been dealing with the WoW freezing problem that hit a lot of people in about January or so. I actually quit WoW in February but am giving it another crack. Before quitting, I tried everything Blizzard suggested, to no avail. WoW ran flawlessly on my machine for 2 years.
Anyway, since I quit, I upgraded the PSU, and I recently upgraded the chipset drivers and I got video drivers from the manufacturer as opposed to the generic NVIDIA drivers I had been using. I also followed a suggestion in the wow forums about tweaking a value for the sound card via regedit (something about turbo = 1 and changing that to 0). So I tried again this weekend and I managed to play for about 40 minutes before the usual freeze up. I poked around in the Windows Event Log and saw the following message twice, each time coinciding with each of the two freezes I got in my two failed attempts to play this weekend: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: fasttx2k ftsata2 IntelIde ViaIde Does this mean anything, or is it coincidental? I never got these before when I was trying to troubleshoot the freezes earlier this year. The gameplay was definitely better after the chipset/driver/sound card tweaks but, alas, the inexplicable and sudden freezing remains, which essentially makes the game unplayable. |
