New Laptop FPS issues

Ok, I recently got a new laptop with a 8600M GS graphic card and Intel Core 2 Duo 2.40 GHz. However, after getting some older games (The Witcher, Warhammer 40k, Neverwinter Nights 2) and Age of Conan installed, all of those run with some frame rate issues (especially The Witcher and NWN2) even at lower settings, however they still run, and my PC meets the system requirements for them. Any suggestions why. Also, it's not a problem with the games since I tried them out on other PC's and they worked fine.

lower the resolution on the games, especially the witcher, I had it liked it but the loading times were too long and the missions were vague.

anyways an 8600 isn't that strong so lower everthing, who cares about the visuals for now just put the graphics so the games are at least playable

Re: New Laptop FPS issues

Yeah, I do that, but I tested al those games on a 8400M GT, and they worked much better. Plus, when I play KOTOR 1 with all the settings maxed outside with grass, I get like 5 fps. Something is wrong. Any ideas?

Re: New Laptop FPS issues

It says that I can run them, and the bar goes 99% even for the witcher.

wel; that's good that your comp can run them, like I said before even for me ( I traded the witcher in) with a amd 6000+ 3.0ghz x 2 and a 8800gts it still lags some times on med - high settings

Re: New Laptop FPS issues

Well, the wierd thing is that I can run AoC with sader 2.0 and shadow turned off while maxing everything else out at about 30 fps (outside) while KOTOR gets around 5 fps if I stand in grass and max out all the settings. Can it be some sort of a virus (though I doubt that since I did a full scan with McAfee and Norton)

Re: New Laptop FPS issues

yea turn off the grass settings for knights of the Old Republic if you can. For oblivion with my old 7600GT video card it had problems rendering grass stuff (moving grass with each grass having shadows underneath) some crazy cool graphics but whats the point if your fps is low.

Lower it to a lower resolution and lower the graphics all the way. Then slowly up your graphics until you fell you still get good frame rates and it looks good enough for you.
