Games won't display in fullscreen (laptop)

I've been playing a couple games (half-life, grim fandango) and after installing both games it seems that neither will display in full screen. I've attempted to change this in game and out of game with no success. To give you a description, there is a small screen playing the game with a larger black border surrounding it. The game itself plays fine but it's annoying to play on such a small screen. I haven't downloaded any files but have been trying to fix it just using the options on windows and in the game. Also both games needed to be run in windows 98 to work.

I'm using a a laptop (toshiba satellite a300) and vista to run the games and my screen size is 15.4 inches.


Any advice is gladly welcome.


ps I want the games to run in full screen.
