Oblivion Crash
I play Crysis, COD4 and Teamfortress 2 on high if not highest settings with no problems but im trying out Oblivion it crashes right after my first couple steps. It kicks me to my desktop with an annoying looping audio sound that doesnt stop until i restart my pc. Ive checked all kind of forums and it is very common issue. Most people point to an audio issue. I have an Asus dx2 PCI Express audio card
I have: Updated My video drivers, installed a codec pack, Installed every patch available even the unofficial patch that is supposed to fix crashes. I run an Athlon 5200+ with Windows vista (32bit) I have 4 gigs of ram(3+ that register) I have an Nvidia8800gts that is NOT overclocked. I removed the Codec pack because it diddnt help and dont have any others previously installed. Help please. Thanks. |

Re: Oblivion Crash
Chck drivers, check patches, current version is v1.2.0416. As for unnoficial patches, I've never used them and I have no problems running the game. Try reducing your resolution and other settings, Oblivion takes a lot more to run it at max settings on high res's than most games

Re: Oblivion Crash
I Searched and found a new set of drivers for my rare sound card...it worked to an extent. Im playing now but it has episodes when It will crash and take like 50 restarts to finally unhook what ever locked it up. But once it runs it wont crash for hours. Graphics never were the problem. I run max settings or lowest and it crashes the same. Whenever it works I use the max just fine. I guess its just a picky game when it comes to audio software/hardware. Thanks for the help though. Feel free to share if you have anymore help but for the most part im fine with only occasional lock ups.

Re: Oblivion Crash
first, got any specs on the system?
second, try disabling/taking out your sound card [if its onboard turn it off in the bios/device manager] and then see if thats causing the problem. also, when you reinstalled, did you patch right away or try to run it in vanilla format?
