Stop: 0X0000009C error and how to get rid of it....

Hello everyone:

I'm playing Company of Heroes and 15m through the game, I hear a 'click' coming from my hard drive so I know what's coming next: game freezes and the BSoD and the this error message.

I think this is a hardware error code but am not 100% certain. So what do I do? I pull all the cards (sound, video, network) out and all the memory out. I take it outside and spray blast with some air to clean out dust. I also spray all the fans to get rid of all the dust. I reinstall the cards and start her up. Then the game plays fine for a few weeks, then start up again.

Is this a dust issue? What else can it be?

Welcome to TSF.

Yes, it's a hardware error.
If you're overclocking - release the OC.
Monitor the temperatures and voltages with SensorsView.

Please post the system specifications.

I had the EXACT same problem!! luckily for you, you still have time, i found it was dust actually on the Disdk itself, which was making alot of heat, which somehow started melting the insides, so then had to fork out £69 for new HDD just give it a good clean, make sure you have a good airflow throught out your computer.... if possible have you PC case open and see if anything changes.
Also.... If it still occurs, do S.M.A.R.T Checks from BIOS menu to make sure your disk is still running ok.

I am not overclocking.

As for monitoring the temp and voltage, what is this Sensorview software? How does it work?

I'm running an Athlon 64 3400+ with 3 gig of memory, ATI X1600 pro 512mb video, Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 (using Bose Companion 3 as main speakers) and direct X 9.0c.

SensorsView gets its info from sensors in/on the HDDs, motherboard, CPU etc.

What power supply do you have?

Also - run MemTest.
Create the bootable CD - boot the computer with the disc and run 4-5 cycles of the test with 1 RAM stick installed at a time.

not sure what power supply....I think it's a 600w. Would Dxdiag tell me?
So what do I do with the sensors view? Do I download the software? Will the site explain what this thing does? thx

Yes, download and install the program.
Check these screenshots: http://www.stvsoft.com/index.php?opt...d=16&Itemid=32

DxDiag won't tell you what PSU you have - look at the sticker inside the case.

OK...I've downloaded the software. The sidebar indicates that the CPU is 73C or 164F. I don't know if this is accurate or not. I'm not sure if this is something recent or not but it seems high. What can I do? I tried to remove the heatsink to clean it but I can't. The only thing I can remove is the fan on top of the heatsink. This temperature is reached without running any software in the background. Just browsing through some websites.
