Negative deta error

I think one of my games has a virus, when I play "Harry Potter and the prisoner of Askaban" (PC Version), after a while I get a "Negative Delta time error", or something gay like that, it's really pissing me off, it only happens on this one game, all my others are fine. I cant test to see if te computers infected because my games computer does not go on the web, so I can't put an anti virus on it and check.

Re: Negative deta error

What makes you think "Negative Delta Time" is a virus error? If you google it, it's to do with the CPU.

Do you have a single or multi-core CPU?

Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode?

Re: Negative deta error

I've never heard of one of these errors before, it sounds like a virus to me, and I have copied things I've downloaded from my web computer and I know sometimes people have hold of game disks and put viruses on them without anyone knowing. My game computer is a dual core.

Re: Negative deta error

Google "negative data error" and you'll see hundreds of forum posts and articles about it.

If your CPU is an AMD, install the AMD Dual Core Optimizer, reboot and play the game again.

Have you tried compatibility mode yet?

One explanation for the error:
Quote:
This is a result of unsynchronised time stamp counters in multi-core processors, and is normally not a problem as Windows handles this, but some games bypass the Windows API and directly access processor functions for performance reasons.

Re: Negative deta error

Thanks for the info, thats taken a load of worry off my back, now I know it's not a virus, but a timing error. My computer's cpu is an AMD and has always had the dual-core optimizer installed on it. I'll try running in compatibility mode later and see if it works.
