Realtek onboard causing freezing in game

ok idk if theres already one of these cuz im new.

I got this computer for christmas from my father. Brand new, nothing special just one of those good deals from wal-mart. not built for gaming but iv fixed it up.
2 gigs of ram and an 8500 gs 1gb that i installed
but i have one problem
I have a realtek onboard sound card
and until yesterday i didnt relize it was the problem.
I have a copy of cod4 and i play it all the time. but the problem is every so often( and it pics the worst moments) it will freeze up for 3-5 secs. I already fixed the crashing problem when i run multi player so im lost on what to do. maybe if one of you could help me. maybe someone is going throught the same thing or has fixed this problem.

thanx!

Re: Realtek onboard causing freezing in game

Welcome to TSF.

Sounds more like your video card can't handle the game.
Try updating the video and sound drivers (you've probably tried that already).

I've moved this thread to PC Gaming support.

no, thats not it, my card can handle it. I'm 100% sure its the sound card
Everyone who uses the Realtek onvoard sound cards have been having problems like mine. Just cant find solutions.

Re: Realtek onboard causing freezing in game

ive just played through COD4 from start to finish with no freezing like you have described and the system i use also has Realtek onboard sound but thats with an 8600GT video card, have you tried dropping shadows and lowering the overall resolution to see if that has any effect?

Edit*
Just a thought im running XP and your on Vista, it might be that, ive heard Vista has sound Problems still whether with onboard or stand-alone cards, maybe someone else running vista can verify whether theyre running COD4 ok with Realtek soundcards.

Re: Realtek onboard causing freezing in game

Also, bear in mind that the onboard sound is using the CPU for calculations and so puts even more pressure on your system.
