One Gaming Ladies and Gents
I have a conundrum for you. For you that have played Doom 3 on Xp you know how good the graphics are. I just rebought the game today after loosing my CD key (my XP computer is out of action game wise). Now Ive installed and everything but I load game up and everything looks fine....but...I notice the planet behind the menu looks slightly flatter and a lot brighter...the plot thinkens... I now get into the menu and think things ar fine when u watch the vid on the monitor of your dropship coming but when the camera moves off the monitor screen everything is wrong...instead of dark corners and eyeballs I see a light sky that shows no clouds, the eyes are solid with no pupils or anything and all the shaders and everything are wrong.. ![]() I've looked for OPEN GL on my vista and it doesn't have it. From doing my own research I think this may be my problem. If you want my vista stats please ask me. ![]() I need help to play this awesome game on my vista home PC. Thanks in advance |

Re: Doom 3 and Vista XP Home
why you ppl buy pcs with vista on them?!?!?!?
it eats your pc's power for no reason (good looks is as good as no reason). it has countless compatibility problems with almost any pre vista game there is, and you can't play freeware games at all. you want a solution? replace vista with XP.

Re: Doom 3 and Vista XP Home
right....ok that didn't help me at all.
you cannot just stick with one O/S...eventually it gets phased out and u have no choice but to move on, example..look at windows 95 now....dead as a dodo and yet others wanted to stay with it. Now could I have some views that are at least going to help me with my issue. Oh and btw to the user who posted....I do have an XP computer, and since you probably did not read my post at all its on its last legs, I use it for webpage surfing only. May I refer other posters to my previous posting about the actual problem. |

Re: Doom 3 and Vista XP Home
yes your specs would be nice. To peterako, I agree with the guy with the prob. You sound just like my friend when he had to change from win98 to XP. All this, isn't compatible with games and hardware etc. Look at XP now! Your saying go back to it! Also, have you not heard that XP is now discontinued? Classic example of kainotophobia

Re: Doom 3 and Vista XP Home
It is advertised as an OS for gamers because it uses direct X 10!!! It eats your PC power for no reason? How about an up to date secure kernal which isn't suuceptable to the likes of the blaster worm? Also I have had no trouble with pre VISTA games anyways as well as most ppl I know who runs it.
It's the world of computers. Don't flow the new then get stuck with the old. See where that gets ya!!

Re: Doom 3 and Vista XP Home
I find vista is actually more stable with most games. However I'm an FPS ho, so I tend to stick to XP for gaming as DX10 doesn't really impress me...
It sounds like your using windows update for your graphics drivers, I had this problem with other games until I downloaded and installed forceware betas available from the nvidia site. What graphics card are you using? If you're using an ati or nvidia card go to guru3d.com (or the manufacturers website if you prefer) and download the latest drivers. Be sure to uninstall the original drivers BEFORE you install the new ones!!! @ peterako, if you can't make a constructive post, then DON'T post. We're not here for a flame war about which OS is better... Last edited by funkmunky; 08-12-2008 at 05:08 AM. |

Re: Doom 3 and Vista XP Home
I had the same problem as soon as i installed Doom 3 on my vista premium laptop.
Collors were strange and the whole doom-world was upside-down ...(my problem was solved by removing 1 simple pk4-file of 244kb). I suggest that you try to install mods that DONT use open gl .... http://doom3.filefront.com/file/Reli..._Shaders;92281 just experiment on this untill you get good results. worked for me
