Re: Sims 2 faster!!

Hi Aniux, welcome to TSF

An extra gig won't make much difference unless you're multitasking with other programs while gaming. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Task Manager and click the Performance tab, then play your game. When it starts to lag, go back to the Task Manager to see the CPU Usage and Memory Usage.

In what way is it slow? Does the framerate drop when there's alot of activity onscreen or is it all the time from the moment you start the game?

Have you tried lowering the screen resolution and in-game graphics settings? Disabling anti-aliasing (AA) should improve things.

How much free hard drive space is left? Windows runs more efficiently with at least 15% free space. Do you defrag regularly?

What is your swap file (virtual memory) setting?

Minimum System Requirements for The Sims 2

If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:

* 800 MHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows Vista, XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least:

* 2.0 GHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows Vista, XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

Supported video cards (and the more video memory the better):

* Nvidia Geforce series (GeForce2 and better)
GeForce2
GeForce3, 3 Ti
GeForce4, 4Ti, MX 420, 440
GeForce FX 5200, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950

Question
Hi. My daughter wants a laptop for Christmas and Ive been looking at one which has a 128mb NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics card. Would this card be sufficient to run her Sims 2 PC game which states requirements of a min of 32mb T & L graphics card? Thanks

Answer
The game wants DirectX 9.0 support, as it runs in DirectX 9.0 natively, the 6150 should provide that, however it probably won't provide a large amount of processing power, which results in choppy game play.
In other words, your CPU and graphics card are not strong enough to play Sims2 at high framerates. Reducing the in-game graphics options to minimum and updating the graphics driver & DirectX might help.
