Recording in Full Screen

Hello, is there a reason why I can't record any games in full screen mode? It's just I'm trying to record something for Stepmania, it records fine when it's windowed, but it goes dead slow for some reason so I have to decrease the size of the window even more so you can only just about see it on the output video.

If I record using HyperCam or Camtasia, it just messes up when I maximize the game. The audio will still be running smoothly, maybie a little quiet because it's recording audio through webcam, but the video won't even record Stepmania.

If I try and record it through my default webcam (LifeCam) software, it'll just stop recording once I maximize the game. And as I said before, I have to record it with a tiny little window box so you can hardly see it.

Also, whilst I'm posting about recording games, is there any programs out there that'll double the speed (or just to mess with % of speed), there is again something I just need to experiment with in recording.

Edit - And Windows Media Player can't do it properly, well at least not the way I want it to. It speeds up the video, but doesn't change the pitch.

Re: Recording in Full Screen

Most capture software eats up your CPU when recording. So you need a pretty good CPU if you want to record in fullscreen.
To try and minimize the affect it has on gaming try to see if you set the type of output file the software creates. See if the software supports "Uncompressed AVI". This means that when you record your CPU wont have to do any compression or encoding while you are trying to play the game. But this will leave huge AVI files on your HDD. A 5min recording can equal upto 200mb-500mb (Video players may not play the Video as its size to too large). But then you simply encode it into DIVX or similar.

Try out FRAPS www.fraps.com

Re: Recording in Full Screen

I've tried Fraps and I don't like it, it makes the game run dead slow when recording. But I'll have a look into what you suggested, thanks!
