Confused Vista or XP for games?

I am about to buy a new laptop in the U.K. A friend said I should try and get an XP installed machine rather than a Vista installed. The reason he gave was that XP games won't run on Vista and I will have to replace all my games. Is there any truth in this? (The laptop I have taken a fancy to is a Vista installed Samsung.)

Hi, welcome to TSF.

You will have issues with some, not all, XP games.

If it is possible to get it with XP instead of Vista, I reckon you should.

Did you have particular games in mind? If so, could you tell us what they are and the specs of the laptop.

Re: Vista or XP for games?

XP will run games better than Vista as Vista with it's "aesthetic" design actually takes up more of your system RAM than XP would.

Re: Vista or XP for games?

the best windows for running games or software for that matter is windows xp as it is designed with software compatibility in mind. unlike vista.

a LOT of people have problems running games on Vista.

Re: Vista or XP for games?

Thanks for the advice guys, I will try to get an XP machine but they are getting hard to find in retail outlets. The type of game I am into is Total War series, Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto.

Re: Vista or XP for games?

I know Call of Duty works on Vista and I would've thought GTA would too.
Dunno about Total war though, but stick with XP if you can.
