CofH Low FPS
I have an aging low end system by todays standards but after some upgrades I tried running it again to see if it would be playable.
My system is a VAIO build which I bought about 4 years ago. It has two hyper threaded P4 2.8 processors, 1 gig of RAM upgraded from 512 and an AGP GForce 6700 which I recently upgraded from an FX 5200. I forget the make of motherboard but its old enough to not allow me to install coolbits. It played COD4 recently on reasonably high settings with a lowest FPS of about 25 so I was able to get some good graphics and game play. I noticed in CofH when the camera is fully panned back I'm only getting about 5 FPS although the game play is still quite smooth. I've not tried to overclock my graphics card as I realise I need to be careful when doing so. I've got the NVidia control panel so I can see the temp of the card and other info like how much the processors are running. My questions: Are two P4 2.8 chips powerful and do they come near dual core capability? I do have the graphics settings high so I could lower them but will overclocking my card help improve the framerate in CofH or can I tweak the two processors? How can I make sure the game is making full use of them? The test showed all aspects of my system were 'great' for running the game but the processor was 'poor'. Are there any overclocking utilities I can use on my old motherboard to tweak it for CofH? Cheers for any advice, Jamie |

Re: CofH Low FPS
First, suggest you consult the the Tweak Guides site:
Also suggest you add their Home Page to your Favorites. As to "Are two P4 2.8 chips powerful and do they come near dual core capability?" Should, but no grantees. A P4 3GHz Hyper-Threading, does come very close to Dual Core, this is what I have on my PC at home. But this option may = new motherboard in your case. Also consider upgrading to 2gb of RAM. This may be more cost effective, just compare the price of the CPU to a 1gb RAM upgrade. Just be careful to get RAM that is an exact match to your motherboard. The easiest way to select the correct memory upgrade is to use 4AllMemory's [Check My System] applet. This will download a small, temporary, applet to your system, read your motherboard, and return a WEB page showing you what you already have, empty memory slots AND compatible memory upgrades. If you have a brand-name motherboard (like MSI) it will list the motherboard manufacturer's memory part number. HIGHLY suggest you print this return page and keep for your records. You don't have to buy from 4AllMemory but their prices are reasonable. I was pointed to this site by my Corporate IT.
