Games crashing to desktop.
Every full screen game I have on my computer will start up and run fine..very smoothly with good FPS and then after a couple of minutes...they all crash to the desktop, usually without even the Windows error message (_______ has encountered a problem and needs to close etc.) I am really not sure what to do about this as i have swapped out nearly every part in my computer in an attempt to fix the problem. I thought the problem may be a weak power supply or overheating so i installed a 500W PSU and a GPU cooler which got my graphics card temp down to around 50C under load. Nothing changed..
all the games simply crash back to desktop after a few minutes of playing. Thanks so much for your help.System specs are: CPU: AMD Athlon 3700+ GPU: Nvidia 7900GS RAM: 3GB OCZ HD: WD Caviar 160GB MOBO: Asus A8N-SLI Premium PSU: Thermaltake Purepower 500W (brand new) Temps: CPU: 36C idle 41 Load System: 37C idle 43C load GPU: 46C idle 50C load Last edited by 1r0nm4n : 07-01-2008 at 05:44 PM. |

Re: Games crashing to desktop.
Have you got the latest directX.
Is your ram one stick, if not try removing and leaving only one ram stick, then two, try the game just incase there is a conflict in the ram. Also, double check your display settings and make sure the refresh rate isn't too high (75-85 Hz is good). Some games simply despise certain audio cards, try turning off any advanced settings in audio,if you have a seperate card. plus install the monitor drivers and disable the VPU recovery in the ATi control panel. Try updating your graphics card to the latest info, or if you have already try unrolling it to original. There are so many solutions to this problem, its a bit of trial and error. Also go into bios and make sure your settings are right for your graphics card, set to GPU etc. Had this problem years ago, just cant remember how I solved it. Re: Games crashing to desktop.
Also have you any virus/spyware programmes running in background, try turning them off when playing.
Also if you have a virus/trojan/spyware already on your computer and you are infected this can cause interuptions. Do a virus check, if you havent done one recently. Super anti spyware free addition is a good start. If you know all this info already I appalogise.; |
