Question random massive glitches and lock ups

Hi,

Heres whats happening, plain and simple. ANY game i start (3D intensive) 60% of the time, after a undefined amount of time my screen becomes massively distorted.
Then when i quit the game (somehow finding the exit button) my desktop becomes unresponsive for about 10-20 seconds. When clicking anywhere my speakers (not system) make a beeping noise (depending on how many clicks). Almost immediately after that, everything's back to normal.

When playing ETQW instead of weird graphics i get lock ups every 30 seconds (each lasting about 10 seconds).

I'll let these screen shots from EVE Online do the talking

http://img108.imageshack.us/my.php?i...veagainwa7.jpg
http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?i...withguiih4.jpg

And one from Half Life 2: Deathmatch (not limited to death match of course)
http://img299.imageshack.us/my.php?i...thmatchij8.jpg

Now to clear things up before you suggest.
1. It is NOT an overheating problem. No Dust, computer is only 3 months old and i have just sprayed it with compressed air.
Idle temp
http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=temppe5.jpg
Full load temp (used OCCT till temp stabilized)
http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tempax6.jpg
As you can see my Freezer Pro 7 doesnt need to go at full speed to keep my temps under control (max RPM is 2500)
2. My computer is more then capable, just check my specs.
3. I have reseated my graphics card and memory.
4. I have run Memtest for 4 hours, no errors at all.
5. Drivers are fully up to date, dxdiag attached to thread.

Thats about as far as my diagnostics have taken me on my own. I would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction

Thanks a lot guys. As always if you need any more info ill be glad to provide it.

Cheers.

Re: random massive glitches and lock ups

Speed Fan doesn't really give the best Readings for temps. Try everest from my sig.
Im thinking it could be your Graphics card overheating or a PSU is weak.
Could you please post what make/model you have. And make sure you dont miss the 12V line amp rating.

Re: random massive glitches and lock ups

Thermaltake 850W Toughpower Modular
Four independent & dedicated +12V rails(12V1,12V2,12V3,12V4) provides superior performance for PC system (combined loading of 62A)
Specs:
Type: ATX12V / EPS12V
Maximum Power: 850W
PFC: Active
Main Connector: 24Pin
+12V Rails: 4
PCI-E Connectors: 4 x 6Pin

And everest doesn't appear to be a temp reader, it seems to just do system reporting.

Edit: It was buried, just to lazy to look hehe.

Re: random massive glitches and lock ups

Speed fan isnt has reliable as Everest. Some temps can be upto 30c +- different. Speed fan may see your CPU at 27c but it could be 40c. Many people have had problems with it.

Re: random massive glitches and lock ups

Ok those temps seem fine. Is that during a game or when your PC was idling.

Edit: Ok ive just noticed that your 12v line is only drawing 9v, which is bad, it usually means a weak Power Supply Unit (PSU). This is most possible whats causing your crashes.
Could you take a look at your PSU on the side of it there should be a sticker. Could you post out the entire thing.

Re: random massive glitches and lock ups

ok well i pulled out everything (what a bi*** that was) and went looking inside my really messy case. Its my first ever PC build and it took me 3 hours to connect everything, so i dont care how messy it is as long as it works (only now i wish it was clean so i can disconnect and connect without holding away wires).

I took a few pics to show whats stickers there are and what is connecting to the GPU.

First ill let you know that its a Thermaltake 850W Toughpower Modular.
In these pics you can see im using one 6-pin PCI-E to connect to my 8800GT. That seems like the only probable connection. However there was this other 8 pin connector that could attach to one side of the 6 pin PCI-E cable, then the other side would connect to the GPU, thinking that would supply the full 12V. Only it wouldn't get past the nvidia boot loader stating "check cables".

http://img92.imageshack.us/my.php?im...2008071gx5.jpg

So what do ya think?
