Hey yall, new here, looking for some sort of solution to a major problem with my new rig. Specs are as follows:
Asus M3A 780G EMH/HDMI Motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ CPU 4gigs RAM (4x 1gb DDR2 PC6400) 750w PSU EVGA nVidia 9800 GTX SSC 512mb PCI-E Vista Ultimate Sp1 64bit Now, the problem only occurs when dealing with video media... When attempting to play games, or watch movies I will get a MASSIVE drop in FPS, from 40-60fps to 1-2fps, about every 30 seconds, regularly. In games that graphically intense (Though my computer SHOULD be able to handle them), that is only while standing still. So far as I can tell there is no excuse for this to be happening, and no matter what I do I cannot seem to find a solution. Help me! |

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
Maybe your antivirus is automatically scanning your computer or something of the like. I had the same problem once and it was beacause my antivirus was actually commencing auto scan. You can try to turn it off if you can.

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
If you're willing, reinstall the whole OS. I really think it will fix the problem, cause it has something to do with the software I think.

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
Is it a completely fresh install of windows?

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
I'm thinking remove SP1 and then try. There's been a few bugs with it.

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
Is there a way to uninstall SP1 without reinstalling Vista, or is that my only option? And yes its a fresh install, came pre-installed on the PC, which I got monday.
Also, all the drivers I've checked and made sure are up to date, including DirectX. Last edited by Pelagius : 06-27-2008 at 01:48 PM. |

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
You can uninstall SP1 like a program via programs and features. (add/remove programs) in control panel.

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
I've attempted to find and uninstall SP1, but it isnt in the list of programs, and I cant identify it in the list of updates. Any chance to uninstall it if it came pre-installed?
(Note this is Vista Ultimate) |

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
Hmmm. I don't think you can remove SP1 if it was installed with the OS. Hence why it's not in the menu to remove it.
What's the make and model of your PSU?

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
Hmm PSU seems try provide good enough power but Im unsure as to whether it is a stable PSU.
Only other solution I can think of is to backup your data and do a reinstall of windows.

Re: Massive Slowdowns on new PC
I'll try that at some point. Im going to call the provider and make sure that wont void the warranty or anything (Not taking any chances). Maybe see if their tech support can actually do anything, but I figured I'd ask some other people first. Thanks for the help.
