keep having to reinstall games

I have vista basic home edition. I installed it a month or two ago and when going to install crysis it played but really lagged. Unistalled and reinstalled works great know. Recently got front lines fuel of war. When to install game took a long time. When finish message saying could not find D:/ or insert disc. So reinstalled still same problem. Took game back installed another frontlines fuel of war installed and played great. Now after removing the disc and playing other games when inserting has same error message and ideas? Not sure if related to game, or Vista

will the game play with the disk in the drive indicated?

No. If I put the game in the disk the error message comes up. Some times the cd/dvd screen comes up play, install, readme, etc. and I select play the the meesage comes up. On front line I installed it and could play fine for several hours. But once I closed the game out and exited back to windows I could never restart the game.
