futile tries to patch gothic 3
One year ago i bought gothic 3. Its the version that came out some time after the launch of the original and in dollars it costs around 17 bucks. Think of value games or bestsellers and you'll know what version im talking about. to the problem now, i tried to install all the patches, official and unofficial. The result was the game to act like its copied and needed a crack to start. it gives me the known messege that i need to install the original cd and blah blah. the only patch that apears to install is the v1,6full unofficial but this patch makes the game slower. loading time needs 3 minutes more and lags more. the game is not pirated. i quit buying pirated games more than a year ago. plz help, you know how buggy gothic3 is

Re: futile tries to patch gothic 3
Hi peterako and welcome to TSF,
Has this game been downloaded from a site like Direct2Drive or similar. If it has then these versions of the game are different from the CD/DVD version and will require a different patch.

Re: futile tries to patch gothic 3
no. the game is not downloaded. it's a retail version. and all patches were downloaded by official sites(mainly piranha bite's sites).

Re: futile tries to patch gothic 3
Disable them before you play the game. Sometimes Virtual drives can mess up Games that use certain CD/CVC detection programs.

this is the messenge i get(i think i should have mention it earlier): "please insert the gothic III cd/dvd into your drive and start the game again. do not remove the disc while playing." A friend of mine suggested that i should install a nocd patch, but i also heard the rumor that a nocd patch cancels all other patches effects.

Re: futile tries to patch gothic 3
Nocd Patch can have all kinds of affects (including hidden Viruses) Patching the game overrides the current exe with a newer one...
When you installed this game was the virtual drive software enabled. Sometimes when it is enabled it becomes the "Default or Primary" drive of your system. So the game is more than likely trying to find the disc on the Virtual drive. The best bet is to completely disable the virtual drive and make sure its not an active process in Task Manager, uninstall the game reboot and reinstall (still with the Virtual drive disabled)

im going to tell you the game's story so far: in a greek official games magazine, i read about a version of the game that costed only 15 euros. i ordered it online from a famous greek e-shop that was just called e-shop(e-shop.gr in case you want to chek it out, although its entirely in greek). i got to the shop and took the copy. the box only contained the game's dvd(the image on the dvd was colorless) amd a small manual(which had colored images and pages and was entirely in english). in my drive's image i see a disc with a black box that says dvd-rom and its named "maine daiten(E:). thats it. i given any info i could.
