Doom 3 Strangly Sluggish on my 8800

hello, my specs are

Intel core 2 duo 2.0GHZ
nvidia 8800GT
2 gig kingston technology ram
250GIG maxtor HDD

i never had a problem with doom 3 until i upgraded from a 7800GTX to my 8800GT now i went from having 30ish FPS on ultra settings, to about 10 FPS on high settings! it's the weirdest thing! i'm not sure what it could be. if this helps at all, i upgraded from xp to vista for awhile, and it worked perfect! non stop 60 FPS through the entire game! but vista was taking up too many resources for the rest of my games, so i formatted, and went back to XP, and ever since then i get 10-15 FPS if not lower...what could be the problem? now i never tested doom with my 8800 before i went to vista, so it's not like it worked before and now it doesn't. HELP!

Hi, welcome to TSF

When you reformatted and reinstalled Windows, did you install all the MS updates, chipset drivers, device drivers and DirectX 9.0c? Which graphics driver are you using?

Re: Doom 3 Strangly Sluggish on my 8800

yeah, i have all the latest drivers for everything, even my 8800...and doom is fully up to date, but even before the update, it did the same thing. another strange thing i noticed, was that i can put it on low quality 640x480 and get the exact same framerate as ultra quality 1024x768
