Re: Directx problem!HELP!!

Post back with the 2 log files mentioned in the error message and I'll move this thread over to the XP forum where the Windows experts can give more advice.

Re: DirectX Install Error [moved from Gaming forum]

If you tried to re-install this from a file you already have it might b e a slight bit corrupted. If you go to the following link and re-download it after you have deleted or removed the old one you have it might help a little bit.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Have a good day.

Re: DirectX Install Error [moved from Gaming forum]

The only thing I can figure that your computer might have an infection. If you could please follow the next set of instructions it may solve the problem:

To get Expert Help with malware removal:

I recommend that you read this article… (Simply, click on the links to be re-directed.)

"Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps";
IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

Please follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the
HiJackThis Log Help Forum.
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...this-log-help/

Please ensure that you create a new thread in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum;
not back here in this one.

When carrying out The 5 Steps,
IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum;
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...this-log-help/

where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Re: DirectX Install Error [moved from Gaming forum]

OK so there is no directx folder where it should be. I still suggest going thru the steps and see if the computer might be infected, I am not so sure but think it is worth trying to find out.

Here give this a try from Microsoft:

DirectX: Cannot Uninstall or Remove DirectX

Re: DirectX Install Error [moved from Gaming forum]

You didn't say where you looked in regedit for the DirectX entries. Before going through the HJT forum, which could take a few days, open regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX. Delete the DirectX entry if it's there, then reboot and reinstall DirectX 9.0C. Reboot again to complete.

Re: DirectX Install Error [moved from Gaming forum]

the regedit issues i just found out after reading through many forums... thats the exact time i notice it and i post it to the forum immediately...

thus, theres no DirectX folder found under your suggested area, done doing the reboot and installing, done doing system restore (which is failed), run in safe mode, using last good known configuration ... all ive done and the same exact msg appear...

ive read on the microsoft articles on directX troubleshoot says "RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, restore the original settings in the DirectX tool, and then restart your computer.

NOTE: It is impossible to determine what the original settings were unless you noted them. If you do not know the original settings, Microsoft suggests that you restore your system from a known good backup. If you do not have a backup copy of your system, you may need to install Windows into a new folder, and then install your programs again to re-create affected registry entries."

is that telling me to format my PC... well if its the last thing i do... then maybe i might consider it... but if theres any way... its still be worth trying...

Re: DirectX Install Error [moved from Gaming forum]

Uninstall DirectX 9

Officially, the only way to get rid of DirectX is to either use System Restore to roll back to the time when you still did not have this version of DirectX on your system, or to reinstall your system. Many third party uninstallers are also available but most of them are buggy and cannot be recommended without proper testing. Using one of these may cause you to end up with more problems. So, the best way to get rid of DirectX is to remove it manually.

To do this, open the Registry Editor by running Regedit from Start > Run. Next, navigate to the following registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX

Here, delete the DirectX folder, exit the Registry Editor, and restart your XP computer. During the system startup, after the restart, your system will reinstall DirectX 8.1 that is originally shipped with the Windows XP operating system. To confirm this, run the dxdiag command from Start > Run. The command will open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool utility. This utility provides you with a lot of information about DirectX installed on your computer along with the version currently installed on your system.Uninstall DirectX 9
