New Build Freezes with Games

specs:

AMD Athlon x2 5000+ Brisbane CPU
2x1GB RAM
160GB SATA Seagate HDD
MSI ATI Radeon RX2600XT Diamond GPU
450W PSU
S-Series GA-M57SLI-S4 Mobo
Windows XP SP 2
Screen Resolution at 1280x960 (19" Hanns-G JW199D LCD Monitor)

Now, I've updated every driver I am aware of, and updated the BIOS.
However, whenever after about two minutes into any game, mainly Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, Half Life 2: Deathmatch, and Half Life 2: Lost Coast, the game freezes up and I see green pixels making a spiral pattern on the screen. The sounds continue to work along with mouse movement, but the screen is locked and I'm forced to restart the computer manually. Any help?

Re: New Build Freezes with Games

Well, got to the top of the cliff on Lost Coast and it froze and then BSODed. I might try using lower settings this time, but that's the farthest any game has got so far on this computer.

Re: New Build Freezes with Games

Does the BSOD flash onscreen before rebooting?

To see the BSOD without the computer restarting, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup & Recovery Settings button > System Failure and remove the checkmark from 'Automatically restart'. Next time the game crashes to a blue sceen, post back with the full message and Stop Code.

Well, this time after freezing up, after I set it like you said, it went from a frozen screen to where the monitor wasn't picking up anything at all anymore and went to sleep.

Okay, it happened again, so here it is verbatim:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ati2dvag

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.

Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

Technical information:

***STOP: 0x000000EA (0x88639BA0, 088CC7008, 0xBACDBCBC, 0x00000001)
