Diagnostic question

I have:
asus m2n-sli
2 gb ddr2 crucial mem
amd athelon 64 X2 3.2
xfx geforce 9800 gt
vista home edition sp1

When playing oblivion after about 2 to 3 hrs of meleeing some evil. The screen goes black and says oblivion quite or not responding. It displayes that it is trying to find out what caused it but never comes up with anything. I had tried to go down from ultra high to high on graphics. Nothing really changed. I used to work on cars so I am sure there is no easy answer for this problem just looking for basic thing I should or could check. Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Diagnostic question

will do on the voltage and temp settings. What is the optimal range? Are you talking settings or actual readings?
